In September 2019, Jocelyn's parents, Tracy and Brian, were scared and overwhelmed with the news that their daughter had T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia and needed treatment right away. Over the next two and a half years, Jocelyn received treatment at Rady Children's Hospital. While the hospital staff took care of Jocelyn, San Diego's Ronald McDonald House provided for her parent's needs, so they could be where they were needed most -- at Jocelyn's side.
The family remembers how the House made their days easier, "The Ronald McDonald House gave us a place for downtime away from the hospital. They fed us and my sister, who was part of our inpatient team, so we didn't have to leave Jocelyn. They even had toys for her while she was in the hospital. We felt really cared for."
As Jocelyn neared the end of her treatment in December, she held a toy drive to help brighten the days of other children at our House, just as she'd been helped. This little hero collected three carloads of toys!
When you give, you help families find stability and peace of mind with rest, nourishment, and connections with others in similar situations. Best of all, you'll help hospitalized children benefit from the love and care of their families when it matters most.
All money raised from Red Shoe Day will support the core mission services of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Temporary lodging, meals, and other life necessities at San Diego's Ronald McDonald House help to sustain families whose lives have been turned upside down by their child's diagnosis and treatment. By providing an unrestricted gift, you are supporting our highest and most urgent needs as determined by our volunteer Board of Trustees.
