I want to raise money for an organization that gave me the freedom to experience sport as a disabled individual.
On October 8, 2023, I'll be running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon to raise money and awareness for Dare2tri. Help me reach my goal by making a donation today!
Dare2tri is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments by building confidence, community, health and wellness through swimming, biking and running. A leader in the paratriathlon community, Dare2tri provides adaptive training for youth, adults, and injured service members, from novice to elite. Since 2011, Dare2tri has helped thousands, including me, cross the finish line by eliminating barriers to high-priced equipment, transportation, and coaching.
My first Dare2tri event was in May 2022 where I learned to tandem swim and made progress on my tandem bike and run. Learn2tri was an opportunity to meet new disabled folks, address my identity in sport as a blind woman, and try something new. As a graduate student, I was only able to attend this camp because of scholarship from the organization. Now, I'm given the opportunity to help raise funds so others can experience the freedom of being involved in this community.
I'm running this marathon to mark a goal off my bucket list while raising money for an organization that I'm passionate about. Growing up, I didn't have access to adaptive sport or knowledge of its existence. My goal is to aid Dare2tri in eliminating that barrier for others, no matter their age.
I did Learn2tri where I did my first triathlon. I learned to tandem swim and continued making progress on my tandem bike and run. More importantly, this was my first time doing an adaptive sport and being in a disabled-friendly sport space, which was all new to me.
