This year I've decided to take on the challenge of running a marathon, specifically the Chicago Marathon coming up on Sunday October 8th. This is something that I've always thought of doing but never had the courage to do so, telling myself that such a challenge would be way too difficult and demanding to complete, especially with a list of injuries I've acquired over the years.

But then, watching the runners last year of all ages and athletic backgrounds lit an inspirational fire in me that said why not and why not now? One group of athletes that specifically caught my eye were those with visual impairments and physical disabilities. Truth be told it never occurred to me that those with visual impairments could participate in such an event. I cheered in awe as those that have experienced physical injuries and limitations WAY beyond any of mine were conquering the course one mile at a time. And that is why I decided to run for Dare2TRI.

Dare2Tri is an organization that breaks down barriers to provide adaptive training and athletic opportunities for youth, adults and injured service members at the recreational and competitive levels. I had the great pleasure of attending their Spring Kick Off event and meeting some of the remarkable athletes and volunteers that participate in the many training, camps and events Dare2Tri offers. It was a mind opening, beautiful day of gratitude, even though the Chicago weather didn't cooperate, go figure ;).

My goal is to raise $1500 for Dare2tri, with all donations going directly to the organization and providing support to their athletes, training events and equipment purchases. If you cannot donate I fully understand but I truly hope you will take some time to read about this organization and all the great things they are doing.

"A leader in the paratriathlon community, Dare2tri provides adaptive training for youth, adults, and injured service members, from the beginner to elite level.
Since 2011, Dare2tri has helped thousands cross the finish line by eliminating barriers to high-priced equipment, transportation, and coaching."
