About 2025 State Winter Games - Volunteer Registration

2025 STATE WINTER GAMES

The State Winter Games, hosted by Special Olympics Colorado, is an annual event where athletes with intellectual disabilities compete in winter sports like alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Held at Copper Mountain, this event showcases the athletes' skills, resilience, and sportsmanship, with competitions and activities designed to celebrate their achievements. Volunteers play a key role in supporting the event, assisting with athlete check-in, guiding events, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for both athletes and spectators. The State Winter Games create an inclusive and empowering environment, emphasizing camaraderie, competition, and community spirit.

VOLUNTEER CHECK-IN

Please check in promptly at the designated Volunteer Registration table upon arrival. Registration locations are as follows:

  • Alpine Ski/Snowboarding Volunteers: Check in at the Ptarmigan A room, located in the lower level of the Copper Conference Center. This is where orientation and training will take place.
  • Cross Country/Snowshoeing Volunteers: Check in at the base of the “A” lift for orientation and training.

Please arrive on time, as we’re working on a tight schedule. During check-in, Alpine Ski/Snowboarding volunteers will receive their lift tickets and further instructions.

Important: Bring your own snowshoes (optional), ski or snowboard equipment (required for Alpine Ski/Snowboarding). Special Olympics Colorado (SOCO) is not responsible for lost or stolen items; please leave valuables at home.

ORIENTATION & TRAINING

Your check-in time is also the start time of your volunteer shift. Training and orientation will occur before competition begins.

ROLE FLEXIBILITY

We ask all volunteers to remain flexible in their assigned roles, as they are based on immediate needs.

ATTIRE

Please dress warmly and be prepared for all weather conditions, as the event is outdoors. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear to ensure comfort throughout the day. Alpine Ski/Snowboarding volunteers must bring their own skis or snowboard equipment. Snowshoe/Cross Country volunteers are encouraged to bring equipment if available, but it is not required.

MEALS

Lunch will be provided to all volunteers:

  • Alpine Ski/Snowboarding Volunteers: You will receive a sack lunch upon check-in.
  • Snowshoe/Cross Country Volunteers: A lunch will also be provided.

Hospitality Centers with snacks and drinks will be available throughout the day at both Alpine Ski/Snowboarding and Snowshoeing venues.
