About Trails and Tales 5K Walk/Run

The St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, established in 1980, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by a group of visionary community leaders who recognized the power of charitable support for CHRISTUS St. Vincent. Governed by an independent volunteer Board of Directors, the Foundation's mission is to enhance community health by supporting the hospital and its staff.

For 45 years, the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation has grown alongside CHRISTUS St. Vincent, fostering collaboration and a shared vision. In 2020, the Foundation partnered with the hospital to provide staff, office space, and manage back-office functions. As a result, 100% of donations go directly to hospital programs or fundraising initiatives, with no funds used for overhead.

This partnership strengthens our commitment to supporting exceptional, compassionate healthcare for the Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico community.

About Trails and Tales 5K

The St. Vincent Hospital Foundation's annual 5K Walk/Run brings our community together to support vital healthcare initiative that make a lasting impact. Proceeds will benefit the Reach Out and Read Program, a powerful initiative that promotes early literacy by providing books to children and encouraging families to build a love of reading from the start. The the program, CHRISTUS St. Vincent providers engage parents in meaningful conversations about the importance of reading aloud--helping lay the foundation for lifelong learning and brighter futures.

The Impact of Reach Out and Read

The Reach Out and Read program at CHRISTUS St. Vincent aims to build stronger families by fostering a love of reading and supporting early literacy. This initiative combines healthcare and literacy, offering families with young children the tools to help their little ones thrive. At every well visit, children ages 6 months to 5 years receive a book, and our providers engage parents in conversations about the importance of reading aloud, from birth through the preschool years. Through this shared experience, we help families strengthen their bonds while setting the stage for a lifetime of learning.

In Northern New Mexico, where access to books is limited, the Reach Out and Read program is making a powerful impact. Our Foundation raises $20,000 annually to support this crucial service, reaching children from low-income families and promoting language development. Studies show that families participating in Reach Out and Read are more likely to read with their children regularly, improving language skills and enhancing the clinic experience for both parents and providers. This program not only nurtures the minds of young children but also empowers families to create lasting educational habits that will carry them into the future.

Thank you for your support!
