How is this a fundraiser?

Programs aboard Adventuress provide young people hands-on maritime and environmental education in the Salish Sea region. The Adventuress Cup allows Sound Experience to engage underserved youth, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and those who face financial barriers or lack traditional access to the waterfront. Adventuress Cup is a fun way for the community to raise funds to support these much-needed local programs. There are two ways to get involved:

Participate Virtually

Adventuress Cup is a peer-to-peer or crowdfunding event (similar to GoFundMe) where folks build a very simple site on this platform for a virtual boat and then reach out to their network to encourage donations toward their team's goal.

Participate in Person

In-person sail racers and powerboats are asked to make a minimum “good faith pledge” of $1,500 in tax-deductible financial support. Thanks to our generous sponsors, every dollar that you raise will directly support the care and maintenance of Sound Experience’s unique education platform, the National Historic Landmark sailing vessel, schooner Adventuress.

Who is Sound Experience?

On-the-water 'all hands' youth education

Sound Experience is a Washington-based nonprofit education organization that delivers powerful shipboard programs that shape young people’s perspectives about the marine environment. For more than 30 years, over 30,000 Puget Sound area children and teens have climbed aboard the 133-foot Adventuress for day and overnight programs. We teach environmental stewardship and current issues affecting Puget Sound and the Salish Sea while introducing young people to potential marine-science and maritime-related career paths.

Adventuress, which was built in 1913, carries the highest designation of historic significance as a National Historic Landmark (NHL) and is one of only two NHL sailing ships still in active operation on the West Coast.
