About Bed Race City Edition 2026
We invite you to join our 2nd Annual Hospice Bed Race: Grand Prix City of Mississauga Edition on October 15th. This high-energy event will bring City of Mississauga staff from every department together for an afternoon of excitement and friendly competition—all in support of Mississauga’s first dedicated Hospice Centre to help us complete the continuum of care.
Teams of 4-6 (2 substitutes) will decorate and race beds (specially made beds for this event) down the course! We encourage teams to embrace the Grand Prix theme with decorations & costumes of their favourite Race (ie. F1, NASCAR, Mario Cart, Marathon, Drag, Speed Skating, Bobsled, etc). This unique and engaging event raises essential funds and increase awareness about the new Hospice Centre being built right now! We have $12.7 Million left to raise to open the Centre mortgage free in Winter 2027, so we are grateful for your participation and helping us reach our goal!
Races will begin at 1:30pm and should conclude by 4:30pm. This will depend on the amount of teams registered and we will update all participants closer to the event.

THE WELTON CENTRE FOR HOSPICE PALLIATIVE CARE - OPENING WINTER 2027
The funds raised from the Bed Race are directed to support the cost of building The Welton Centre for Hospice Palliative Care.
Mississauga's first dedicated Hospice Centre will include 12 suites in a beautiful home-like setting, staffed 24/7 by nurses, physicians and personal support workers. We are currently on budget and on time to open in Winter 2027. Together, we have an opportunity to build not only a centre, but a movement of compassion across Mississauga. Your support is more than a donation — it is an investment in a community where care, dignity, connection, and choice are accessible to all.
THE OPERATIONAL NEED
Hospice relies on the community for
90% of our funding for capital projects like building the new Hospice Centre.
Hospice care is equitable care as it is provided at no-charge to the individual or family. This is important as many clients self-report as being low-income.
70% of those we serve have cancer related illness and this is projected to grow by 120% by 2030.
It is the most cost efficient method of providing end of life care and bereavement supports. Hospice care costs 33% less than the same care in an acute care setting. Yet hospices receive just 60% of funding to deliver care. Relying on donations to cover the gap.
Even more challenging is that approved hospices receive just 10% of the capital costs to build a hospice centre, hospitals receive 90%. It is recommended to have 7 hospice beds for every 100,000 people
in a community, we currently have zero.
Your new Hospice Centre is the first, and significant, step in addressing these needs.
