Believe…

in never stop believing

Gina Fitzsimmons

In November 2016, I had a constant ache in my right breast that shortly went away, but something told me to pay attention to that area in my breast. I found a small lump in December, and I felt it was growing, so I went in for a physical with my primary doctor in January. My doctor didn’t feel anything, but I insisted it was there, so she sent me for a mammogram and an ultrasound. Within the week, they found a tumor in my right breast, and I was sent to a surgeon. On February 10th, 2017, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. It was frightening to hear the Triple Negative breast cancer diagnosis, which is very aggressive and hard to treat. I had lost a dear friend Sarah Amento to this type of cancer just a year and a half earlier.

I’m glad Sarah taught me to be my own advocate and to act fast! I received a second opinion from Dr. Robert Nagourney, an amazing oncologist specializing in Individualized Cancer Treatment.

On March 9, 2017, I had a mastectomy of my right breast and four lymph nodes removed. The lymph nodes were clear, but the Triple Negative diagnosis made chemotherapy necessary. I went through four rounds of very aggressive chemo in three months.

With the amazing support of my husband, son, family, friends, and my strong faith in the Lord... I am and remain a Survivor! #Godsgotthis #Wegotthis #Gstrong
