Believe…

in never giving up

Sandy Laird

2019: I had a lump behind my ear. My doctor thought it was a swollen gland, but after tests, they determined it was a benign tumor. My gut told me to remove it. Thankfully I did. It turned out to be Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (parotid cancer). I had the gland removed, followed by six and a half weeks of daily radiation. I was then diagnosed with shingles.

2020: Covid hit, and I had an emergency appendectomy. I had a routine mammogram, and something “suspicious” showed up. Doctors felt they could keep an eye on what they called a nodule. I wanted it biopsied. Sure enough, it was invasive ductal carcinoma. Exactly one year later, I had another surgery and another six and a half weeks of daily radiation.

2021: I broke my ankle and got Covid. 2022: Nodules and biopsy on my thyroid were diagnosed with another cancer. I had surgery to remove my thyroid. Thankfully no treatment was needed!

I’ve learned how strong I am and to never give up. I’m fortunate to have amazing, fun, supportive friends, family, and, most of all, my loving husband. I’m happy to report that I am a threetime cancer survivor!
