At 10 years old, Amelie Escobedo is a shining example of courage, resilience, and determination.
Before cancer entered her life, Amelie was a happy first grader who loved reading, playing with dolls, and spending time with her twin brother. One day before starting second grade, everything changed after her diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
Her increasing fatigue soon became much more serious. When she couldn’t walk on her own, doctors discovered small fractures in her spine. Further testing revealed the cause: leukemia.
From the beginning, Amelie earned the nickname “Amelie la Luchadora,” which translates to Amelie the Fighter. Through countless appointments, medications, and treatments, she faced every challenge with remarkable strength and never complained. For two and a half years, she battled cancer head-on.
Six months ago, Amelie proudly rang the bell, marking the end of treatment. Since then, she has embraced life with enthusiasm. She joined volleyball and started orchestra at school, where she is enthusiastically learning to play the violin.
Today, her calendar is filled with music, practices, and games instead of treatments. A beautiful reminder that hope, perseverance, and courage can carry us through even the toughest battles.
