Believe…

in Miracles

Ana Guevara-Lowery

People often say, “Life is too short,” and after my cancer journey, I truly understand the meaning behind those words. In 2023, while teaching special education in West Virginia, I was constantly sick and visiting doctors. After experiencing severe abdominal and back pain, I discovered I had fibroids and needed a hysterectomy. Three months after my surgery, I received the news that changed my life: I had stage III endometrial cancer.

I was shocked, scared, and alone, but my family became my support system. After moving to California, I began a two-year chemotherapy journey. I was told I may only have one year to live and needed to prepare my family. My children and sisters stood by me, and my son Robert became my healthcare provider while attending college.

Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center welcomed me with compassion and hope during one of the hardest times in my life. They provided support, transportation assistance, counseling, and reminded me I was not alone.

Today, I am on immunotherapy and in remission. I have changed my lifestyle; I spend time with loved ones and share the love and hope I received. I am grateful for Michelle’s Place and will continue volunteering to support others.
