This is my 10th year participating in the Believe Walk. I’ve always walked in honor of and in memory of loved ones, but I never thought I would be walking one day for myself as well.
My journey began with one symptom I knew wasn’t right. I was due for my annual physical exam that month, and a few days after that visit, I was diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma. I had a full hysterectomy. The surgery was supposed to be robotic with no further treatment. That turned into invasive surgery, stage 3 cancer, because the cancer spread to one ovary.
I faced four days inpatient along with six rounds of two types of chemotherapy, 25 rounds of radiation, and one year of immunotherapy. There was a lot of fear, anxiety, and tears. But there were more prayers and the best support system anyone can ask for.
I’ve said from the beginning that if anything positive can come from this besides being cancer-free, I would like to be an inspiration to others. As I navigate through my journey, I see how positive being transparent is and how it has helped others. I pray for the will and the strength to continue to do so. Remember, early detection is key!
