In 2011, I was working my dream job as a law enforcement officer for the county where I lived. While on patrol, I began to feel pain in my left hip. Over time, the pain grew worse, but “being a dude,” I ignored it. My wife and I noticed a lump on my hip.
In 2012, after many scans and tests, I was diagnosed with Histiocytic Sarcoma. I was referred to the Surgery Oncology Center at Loma Linda Medical Center, where a sixteen-centimeter tumor was surgically removed from my hip. I’ve had ten major surgeries and various hospital stays for infections and other complications.
Doctors told me this cancer rarely reappears before it progresses beyond treatment. Still here- cancer-free fourteen years later. I thank God every day for the referral to Loma Linda Cancer Center; their knowledge and experience have kept me around long enough to see my Grandchildren.
Cancer has taught me that attitude and faith are everything. We hear the word cancer and tend to believe that it is GAME OVER! But that is simply not true. Always stay strong, never lose faith; miracles really do happen every day.
