In 2003, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, a life-changing event that ultimately led to the creation of a movement that has helped thousands of firefighters.
During treatment and recovery, I recognized a significant gap in support for firefighters facing cancer diagnoses. While firefighters routinely responded to help others in crisis, there were few resources available for firefighters battling cancer themselves. I was determined to change that reality and founded the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN).
What began as a mission to connect firefighters with others who understood their journey has grown into a nationally recognized organization providing education, peer support, resources, and hope to firefighters and their families across North America. Through FCSN, countless firefighters have received guidance, encouragement, and assistance during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
This vision transformed my personal battle with cancer into a legacy of service that continues today. I hope my story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of adversity, one person can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
