Pete Trapani

My cancer journey spans more than two decades. In March 2000, while serving as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Orange County Fire Authority, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Following treatment, I experienced many of the physical and emotional challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis and survivorship.

Seeking support from others who understood my experience, I attended a meeting for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN). I found comfort, encouragement, faith, and camaraderie among fellow firefighters who shared the unique bond of cancer survivorship. The experience was life-changing and inspired me to become actively involved in the organization.

I dedicated years of service to FCSN, serving as Vice President from 2004 to 2008 and helping countless firefighters and their families navigate their own cancer journeys. In 2022, I faced another challenge when I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Once again, confronted with a cancer diagnosis, I faced it with resilience and determination.

Today, Pete continues to support the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. His story demonstrates the power of peer support, perseverance, and giving back to others facing the challenges of cancer.
