About Gennesaret Free Clinics

Mission: Gennesaret Free Clinics provides quality, accessible, and compassionate patient-centered healthcare for persons experiencing homelessness or lacking established healthcare. Seeking to serve, Gennesaret Free Clinics is a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, staff, and volunteers who treat all persons with dignity and respect.

Gennesaret’s main services include: 4 stationary medical clinics; 1 mobile medical clinic with 8 partner sites; 1 dental clinic; 3 health recovery homes for men and women experiencing homelessness; a bilingual telehealth program; and women’s health services, including wellness exams, screenings, and diagnostics for breast and cervical cancer.

Since 1988, GFC has annually served thousands of the most vulnerable individuals in the Indianapolis community, including individuals experiencing homelessness, without health insurance or are medically underinsured, and/or individuals with mental and/or behavioral health disorders. Unfortunately, due to racial health disparities, patients who identify as BIPOC and/or Latino are disproportionately represented in Gennesaret’s patient population (more than 70%).

This challenge coin campaign is in memory of Dr. Joseph R. Baele, a man who exemplified compassion, kindness, integrity, humility, and honesty in everything he did. The image on the coin portrays Joe executing his duties as a member of Indiana Task Force 1, an organization very close to his heart. The coin also features some of Joe's most favorite places and activities: Family, New Orleans, Notre Dame, the Blues, photography, orthopedics, Methodist Hospital, and, of course, Indiana Task Force 1. As depicted on the coin, Joe always did the right thing and he never let the bad guys win.

What is a challenge coin, you might ask? Challenge coins represent organizations, units, and teams. They can also represent an achievement, an anniversary, a special event or, in our case, a treasured individual. They build close-knit, lasting bonds between people who possess them and they represent unity.

The coin is available for purchase with a minimum donation of $20 per coin, which can be done by clicking on the "Donate Now" button. The proceeds of this initiative will be donated to Gennesaret Free Clinics, a nonprofit Joe and Jan both volunteered at for many years. Gennesaret Free Clinics provide quality, accessible and compassionate patient-centered healthcare in the Indianapolis area, regardless of one's insurance coverage or ability to pay. More information about Gennesaret Free Clinics can be found at www.gennesaret.org. We feel promoting and supporting Gennesaret Free Clinics is the perfect way to honor and continue Joe's legacy of providing quality healthcare to everyone who needs it.
