Our mission is to ignite girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programs that support girls’ healthy development. Ultimately, our vision is to create a mentor-rich community in which every girl has access to the individual nurturing, guidance, and support she needs to become a confident, competent and caring adult. We are a national model for gender-sensitive mentoring for girls which can be replicated in other mentoring programs.
Big Sister Boston is proud to be recognized by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America as the 2015 national Agency of the Year for our substantial growth in the number of children served, quality and length of mentoring relationships, and increased revenues that support our agency financially. We believe that all children can benefit from the care and guidance of an adult mentor and, that when girls’ unique needs are addressed, they thrive with increased confidence, improved relationships and the ability to achieve their individual goals. We are part of a network of more than 300 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America agencies. We are the only affiliate solely serving girls.
In 2020, we served more than 3,330 women and girls in 69 cities and towns throughout Greater Boston. For more information about our programs, visit our website.
For 70 years, Big Sister Association of Greater Boston has been 100% invested in girls. We are committed to creating access and opportunity for our Little Sisters, 90% of whom are girls of color, by putting our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into action through every aspect of our work. A Big Sister gives a girl the confidence she needs to develop new skills, make healthy decisions, and broaden her vision of what’s possible in her future. Using research-based best practices that employ a gender intentional lens, our Little Sisters experience lasting positive outcomes in academic achievement, interpersonal relationships, and the ability to avoid risky behaviors.
Last year our organization served more than 3,300 girls and women throughout Greater Boston. We could not work with as many girls as we do each year without the dedicated support of our partners.
