Steve and I are delighted to be fundraising again with our granddaughter, Madeline, for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s 54th Annual Gala. Madeline is twelve years old and was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease when she was seven. The mission of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is to find a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. We are proud to be Vice Chairs of the 54th Gala committee to honor Madeline and all the other children who are living as normal lives as possible. Your donation will help to provide resources and support for patients, caregivers, and medical professionals, as well as to fund research for this so far incurable disease.
“I’m really proud of what we accomplished last year and am happy to be fundraising again,” she said. “It would be amazing if we were part of finally finding the cure for Crohn’s.”
Asked for an update, Madeline responded, “It’s been a crazy year. School was a lot more complicated going from no in-person classes to two days then three and now four days in school. My sleep schedule got really messed up.” She added, “I’m feeling a lot better now – not spiking fevers, having occasional stomach aches and diarrhea. I’m injecting Humira once a week and taking methotrexate.”
Madeline is into track and likes to draw. When queried on the family pets, she noted that they still include George, the dog, and Luna, the cat, and that Tater Tot has joined fellow hamster, Mickey, though in a separate cage. The hamsters are her responsibility, and she helps brothers Andrew and Ben with the others.
