About Clayton Virtual Stair Climb

The virtual Clayton 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is held each year to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters lost on 9/11 and raise funds for charities supporting first responders. This year's climb will benefit
the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Supporting Heroes.

For this climb, firefighters and civilians join forces in a 110 floor stair climb to honor those whose lives were lost. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Clayton Stair Climb will be held virtually. We challenge you to join us, and to spend time the weekend of September 11-14 doing the climb by yourself or with a small group.

Please note: we are going to mail out name badges to participants on September 1, 2020. If you want your badge prior to your climb, you must be registered by 9/1/2020. Shirts for this event will be mailed to participants after the event is over.

Why Participate?

The virtual Clayton 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way to honor and remember the those brave first responders who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on 9/11/2001. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter or law enforcement officer, by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of our fallen brothers and sisters, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Through public safety officer and community participation, we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters, the 71 police officers, and the 8 EMS workers is honored and that the world knows that we will never forget.

The stair climb was chosen for two primary reasons:

  • The FDNY firefighters on 9/11 were forced to climb the stairs to rescue and evacuate people, as well as reach the fire floors.
  • A commitment to firefighter safety through better fitness.
