Join the Fight Against Colorectal Cancer

I'm participating in the 2020 Colon Cancer Challenge to support The Colon Cancer Foundation's critical mission and life-saving programs. Please support this great organization by making a donation or joining Team Running for John and Tom! on March 29, 2020 at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island, New York City.

The Challenge has been an important part of my life since its first annual incarnation in Central Park in 2004. I ran that race in honor of my stepdad, John Hanna, who passed away from colon cancer a few months later. I was the top female fundraiser for that race, and I will never forget how the support we received from far and wide brought John so much happiness during such dark days.

In the lead-up to that first race, I was contacted by Dr. Thomas Weber - renowned colorectal surgeon and the visionary founder of the Challenge. Over the next 15 years I was fortunate enough to work with Dr. Weber in various volunteer capacities as he grew the Challenge and built its parent organization, the Colon Cancer Foundation. Dr. Weber passed away last September after a brief battle with a rare and very aggressive form of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was the same age as John - too young to be taken by the heinous disease that is cancer.

While I remain devastated by the loss of my mentor and friend, I am more determined than ever to continue to help in the fight against colorectal cancer - a treatable and beatable disease. Please consider making a donation to Team Running for John and Tom! And if you're local, please join us on race day!
