DogFest supports the mission of Canine Companions to
enhance the lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs free of charge. These dogs make a profound impact through the jobs they do like opening doors, picking up dropped items, alerting to sounds and much more.

DogFest Texas - Bigger than ever!

In 2020 DogFest Texas raised over $100,000 through a virtual event. Our goal in 2021 is to raise $200,000 across the state of Texas. We are excited to expand to three in-person events this year. We invite you to join the movement to support the Canine Companions mission, and to celebrate the human-canine bond. Your support means more fellow Texans’ lives forever changed. Join the fun!

Why We Fundraise

Canine Companions transforms the lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs. Our dogs perform practical tasks that enhance independence and reduce reliance on others. They aren't just the eyes and ears, hands and legs of their human partners, they're also goodwill ambassadors and often, our best friends. A student achieves their dreams of attending college. A veteran gets a good night sleep. A patient can endure an additional procedure. Lives are transformed after being matched and working with a Canine Companions service dog.

According to the U.S. Census, nearly 1 in 4 people in the U.S. have a disability. While it costs approximately $50,000 to raise and train every Canine Companions service dog and provide ongoing support to the human-canine team, each dog is provided to the recipient completely FREE of charge. Canine Companions has placed over 6,800 service dogs, but more than 400 people with disabilities are still waiting for a match.

Our service dogs open up new opportunities and spread incredible joy. By raising funds through DogFest, you support our mission and the people we serve. Thank you.

Londen's Story of Independence

Londen with Service Dog Numa

Living with a traumatic brain injury, Londen spends more time than most in a hospital setting. After working with the hospital’s Canine Companions service dog, Londen and his mother, Fabiola, decided to apply for a service dog of their own.

Soon after, they received expertly-trained Service Dog Numa free of charge. Numa is now by Londen’s side each day to help with daily tasks such as retrieving items and opening doors, as well as participating in his therapy sessions and providing motivation.

Fabiola says Numa brings Londen companionship and the confidence that together they can tackle anything. From a difficult therapy session, to a hospital visit, to going out into the world, Numa is always there.

“Being that he’s in a wheelchair, and that’s different for a lot of people, having Numa really boosts his confidence out in public like, ‘look at my dog!” shares Fabiola.

The family says Numa has been a huge blessing to their entire family, and they know that a lot goes into making this happen.

“It is beyond clear that there has to be passion and dedication from everyone involved, and Numa is a reflection of each and every one of you.”

Kaitlynn's Story of Independence

Kaitlynn with Service Dog Renley

Since being matched with Canine Companions Service Dog Renley two years ago, Kaitlynn has become more independent and confident, knowing that Renley is there to be her ears.

“Before receiving Renley, I was afraid to go out on my own,” said Kaitlynn. “Now, I can count on his cold, wet nose to nudge my leg to alert to important sounds. There are many assistive devices out to assist the deaf and hard of hearing, but none can compare to a service dog.”

In public, Kaitlynn watches Renley’s head movements to the busy world around them to feel more in tune with her surroundings. At home, Renley gives her peace of mind by alerting to her alarm clock, the doorbell and even a fire alarm if needed.

“Now that I have Renley, I feel empowered.”
