About Drive Out Cancer Field Hockey Tournament 2024

What originally began as a game between MTA and Morse field hockey, was expanded to a tournament in 2015. The intent of this project is to instill a sense of service in our student-athletes, which they will carry into their lives beyond high school.  As athletics plays an important role in the educational lives of our students, we feel compelled to give back to our communities in ways that allow students to demonstrate compassion, learning, service and integrity. We chose the Maine Children’s Cancer Program (MCCP) as the beneficiary of this event to honor a former player who was treated there as a child and to highlight the importance of research and treatment for children in Maine (and beyond) who battle terrible diseases.

This year's tournament is set for Saturday, August 31st from 8:00am-3:00pm. Our student presentation will take place at 12:00pm on tournament day, during which we pay tribute to the many lives and loved ones impacted by cancer.

About Maine Children's Cancer Program

Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP), the pediatric oncology program of MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, is committed to providing comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood disorders in Maine and parts of New Hampshire.

Our team of pediatric oncology/hematology physicians, specialized nurses, social workers, research associates, a child life specialist, and a dedicated pediatric oncology clinical pharmacy specialist work together to provide care that incorporates three integrated components: state-of-the-art medical treatment, psycho-social support services, and clinical research.

With approximately 50 new oncology diagnoses each year, 200 of whom are on active treatment at any time, along with about 150 children being followed for a variety of blood disorders, MCCP fills a great need in our state by providing excellent care in a closer-to-home setting.
