About Drive Out Cancer Field Hockey Tournament 2025

What began as a friendly field hockey match between MTA and Morse has grown into a full tournament since 2015—rooted in a powerful mission. This annual event is more than just a game; it's an opportunity to instill a lasting sense of service in our student-athletes, one that extends far beyond the field and their high school years.

Athletics plays a vital role in shaping our students’ educational experience, and with that comes the responsibility to give back. Through this tournament, we empower students to lead with compassion, learn through service, and act with integrity.

We are proud to support Maine Children’s Cancer Program (MCCP) as the tournament’s beneficiary—a choice made to honor a former player who received care there as a child. This partnership shines a light on the critical need for research and treatment for children in Maine and beyond who are bravely facing life-threatening illnesses.

This year, we are honored to dedicate the tournament to Mt. Ararat sophomore Abigail Roy, who has been under MCCP’s care throughout the year as she courageously battles lymphoma. Her strength, resilience, and spirit are an inspiration to our entire community, and we are proud to rally around her and so many others affected by childhood cancer.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, August 30th, from 8:00am to 3:00pm. At 12:00pm, we invite you to join us for a special student-led presentation to recognize and remember the many lives and loved ones touched by cancer.

About Maine Children's Cancer Program

Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP), the pediatric oncology program of MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, is committed to providing comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood disorders in Maine and parts of New Hampshire.

Our team of pediatric oncology/hematology physicians, specialized nurses, social workers, research associates, a child life specialist, and a dedicated pediatric oncology clinical pharmacy specialist work together to provide care that incorporates three integrated components: state-of-the-art medical treatment, psycho-social support services, and clinical research.

With approximately 50 new oncology diagnoses each year, 200 of whom are on active treatment at any time, along with about 150 children being followed for a variety of blood disorders, MCCP fills a great need in our state by providing excellent care in a closer-to-home setting.
