Dr. Greg Sharp

Dr. Greg Sharp is first and foremost a small town Arkansas boy who grew up in Crossett, and at the age of 9 determined he would either become a professional baseball player or a doctor. Well, at least the doctor part worked out!

For some unknown reason, the thought of becoming a dancing star never crossed his mind. His plan was to return to small town Arkansas as a family practitioner, but that all changed when he first walked into Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a medical student in 1982. It took him about 5 minutes to completely fall in love with the hospital and caring for kids. There was only one Child Neurologist at ACH then, and he recognized a great need.  Following a residency in Pediatrics, he trained in Child Neurology at the Mayo Clinic. He has since gratefully served the children of Arkansas for 30 years, and has been truly blessed by each and every child he has cared for.

He achieved board certification in Pediatrics, Child Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy. The Neuroscience Center now holds over 20 specialized clinics with one of those being the Neurofibromatosis Clinic.  Dr. Sharp was the inaugural recipient of the John H. Bornhofen, MD Endowed Chair in Child Neurology, and now holds the Harvey and Bernice Jones Distinguished Chair in Pediatrics.  He is currently a Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at UAMS, and Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

One of his greatest accolades was when one of his patients, a little boy from a small town in Arkansas named his pet calf—Dr. Sharp.  The fact is, there is no greater honor than to provide care to a child and in return be loved by that child. To this day, his favorite person to have a conversation with is a five-year-old.  The only thing better might be two five-year-olds, who could probably dance far better than he!
