Gregory Maire Memorial Scholarship Fund
In 2015, Michael Horvich and Gregory Maire (RIP) founded the fund to support youth in the greater Chicago area, who confronting homelessness would otherwise not be able to get a college education in the hopes of improving their lives, and those of their families.
Since the first La Casa Norte Scholarship Luncheon in 2016 began to support the adventure for 25 students who are part of the Youth in College Program, over $150,000 has been raised to provide students with tuition, fees, books, computers, bus passes and other expenses.
Unfortunately, in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to host our Annual Education Luncheon in person. However, we will continue to celebrate virtually and provide scholarships, case management, and educational support to our youth! We were able to raise $33,000 in 2020 through online donations.
Watch for hold the dates, e-mail blasts, and other social media talking about “Empowering a Generation: La Casa Norte’s Virtual Education Week,” May 3 - May 5, 2021.
This year, an anonymous donor has provided a $10,000 matching grant for donations to the 2021 Gregory Maire Scholarship Fund. You have helped our students in the past and hope you will step up again and to help us to meet the “Match." Your contributions are tax deductible. Thank you so much for your keeping the memory and good works of Gregory alive!
