I was diagnosed with Epilepsy at age 15. My seizures are now well controlled and I want to give back to those struggling to find treatments.
On July 2nd, 2024, Sarah Wallace and I will be setting out to traverse the entire length of the North Country Trail’s passage through Pennsylvania. We plan to complete the 285.8 mile trek in 5-7 days starting at the Ohio border on SR271 and ending at the New York border in the Allegheny National Forest. The trip will be submitted for verification on www.fastestknowntime.com . This route does not have a verified FKT (fastest known time) yet. Successful completion and verification of this trip will set a FKT in the mixed gender team division.
UPDATE 7-8-24: WE DID IT!! WE FINISHED!
Prior to and concurrent with the trip I will be raising funds for the Epilepsy Association of Western and Central Pennsylvania (EAWCP). My goal is to raise $2500 to help those battling with Epilepsy. As someone with Epilepsy this is a cause close to my heart and it is a privilege to help the EAWCP fulfill its mission to serve the local community.
About me
I was diagnosed with Epilepsy at age 15. After years of treatment we finally found a medication that works well for me. Not long after getting my seizures under control I quit smoking and took up running completing my first marathon for the Epilepsy Foundation’s Athletes vs. Epilepsy team in 2013. I have been hooked on distance running since then completing one 200 mile race, eleven 100 mile races, and numerous races of shorter duration. Sarah and I are excited for the undertaking ahead!
About Sarah
Sarah Wallace is a professor at the University of Pittsburgh specializing in Aphasia. She is an accomplished long-distance runner with two 200 milers under her belt and numerous 100 mile completions including podium finishes of these endurance events!
Thank you for supporting epilepsy awareness and this crazy adventure!
We will be running, walking, and crawling all 286-ish miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail's traverse through the state of Pennsylvania in early July!
