Krista is Fighting for Firsts because good prenatal care shouldn't be a luxury. Every pregnant person deserves support and resources. And that help can make all the difference in the health of moms and their babies!
Hi, and thanks for your interest in Healthier Moms and Babies' Fighting for Firsts Campaign!
I feel like naming all those cliches that are associated with becoming a parent: that yes, everything does change when you have a baby, that I've never known a love like the kind I have for my daughter, and that life really seemed to begin when I held my baby for the first time.
All of those are true, and then some. My internet tabs are filled with, "how to introduce cow's milk," "safest car seats," and "10-month, 11-month and 12-month sleep regressions." (LOL)
So, yeah, life has changed a lot since becoming a parent. And that's why I feel so passionately about good prenatal care and education so that all babies make it to their first birthdays.
I understand that my journey to parenthood has been one of privilege. I never had barriers in getting to doctor's appointments. When my midwife ordered a fancy ultrasound to test the levels of my amniotic fluid, we didn't hesitate. When our baby wasn't sleeping, we ordered all the different sleep sacks and swaddles that promised to help our baby rest. And we had support from family and friends.
Our community is so lucky to have Healthier Moms and Babies. Their staff educates moms and families, provides resources for them, and is a constant presence in a woman's pregnancy and her baby's first year of life.
Please consider supporting Healthier Moms and Babies through the Fighting for Firsts Campaign, and let's get every baby to his or her first birthday and set them up for success!
