Nurses are the backbone of healthcare in Haiti. Our support will make a huge difference!
On April 5th, I will be running the Cooper Bridge 10K in Charleston, SC. This beautiful bridge connecting Charleston and Mount Pleasant is one I’ve driven many times thinking “that would be a fun challenge to run”. Now it’s finally time to take on that challenge.
In doing so, I will be raising awareness and support for nursing education at the FSIL nursing school in Leogane, Haiti. Family Health Ministries (an organization very near and dear to my heart of which I am now the Executive Director) has supported FSIL nursing school since 2005. Our overall goal is to personally raise $15,000. On May 12th, International Nurses Day, the Haiti Nursing Foundation will match this campaign, doubling your impact. This new goal of $30,000 will provide full scholarships to 8 nursing students.
I am asking for help in my fundraising efforts. I have set a personal fundraising goal of $5,000. I am reaching out to my peers in hopes that you will reach out to yours and so on. If many people donate a small amount, I know we will reach this goal very quickly. Click on the ‘register’ button to set a goal of how much you would like to personally raise and begin your journey. You can also support by donating directly, joining me in this race on April 5th, or sending prayers.
In Haiti, there is a proverb ‘Dèyè mòn gen mòn’ or ‘Beyond mountains there are mountains’. Haitian nurses, seeing first-hand over and over again the harsh reality of broken healthcare systems, know this saying better than most. This very steep bridge run is- literally and figuratively- one of the mountains I’m facing in this season. “Getting over it”- as is the motto of this race- is a way of symbolizing the daily perseverance of nurses in Haiti. It would mean the world to me if you could join me- physically, financially, or through prayers. Mèsi anpil. Nou pi bon ansanm (“Thank you so much. We are better together.”).
