Fundraiser Freight 2023 supporting Alberta Cancer Foundation

Fundraiser Freight – The team that likes to scare the pants off you to raise money for a great cause.
Fundraiser Freight was founded by Chris and Denise Montgomery and their family. What started out as a small team of nine scaring people in a haunted house, has now grown to a group of over 100 members.
Fundraiser Freight is not just a haunt team but group of people who is there to support one another through anything life may throw at you. We help kids work through fears, bullying and self esteem issues among many other things. Fundraiser Freight is a team of incredible people that not only share a passion for Halloween and haunted houses, but most of us are connected in some way or another by how cancer has touched our lives.
Debbie, Denise’s mom, was the teams’ greatest supporter. She was always there to help the kids, to give them hot chocolate or a snack during breaks from the haunt, to help with costumes or whatever was needed at the time. In 2011, Denise’s mom Debbie, was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. Denise and her family stayed by her side through the all of the treatments and the ups and downs that came with this diagnosis. Denise and Chris decided after Debbie’s diagnosis that entrance to the haunt should be at the cost of a donation to Alberta Cross Cancer. They wanted to give back to the agency that helped Debbie and many other dear people to fight this horrible disease. So every year there after, the entrance fee to the haunted house has always been a donation to Alberta Cross Cancer Foundation.
Unfortunately on September 7th, 2018, Debbie passed away after a long, very hard fight with cancer. But her courage, love and support continue to inspire this team to keep the love and hard work going.
So many members of our team have had someone near or dear to them suffer from this disease. And many of us have lost some of the people closest to us. Denise’s Aunt Betty passed due colon cancer, Chris’s dad passed due to liver cancer, Jen’s mom passed due to ovarian cancer, my son Richard has passed due to leukemia. The list could go on and on.
Most recently on November 24th, 2019, we lost a dear team member, Rick Haggith, to peritoneal cancer. Rick was a wonderful man who always went above and beyond to help the team out. It didn’t matter if he was helping the team build the haunt or taking home lighting to fix it up in his spare time, Rick always did it with a smile on his face. His kind and caring nature will be forever missed by this team. We are so very grateful for the time we were able to share with him.
In grateful and loving memory of Debbie, Rick and the many others lost, in hope and courage for the ones who are still fighting and in celebration of the ones who conquered. We will continue to build this haunt each year to raise money for the Alberta Cross Cancer Foundation and to encourage and inspire the kids to understand that anyone can conquer anything with a friend.
Come on down to the Fundraiser Freight Kingdom of Lost Souls haunted house and support a great cause. Entrance fee is a minimum $5 donation to Alberta Cross Cancer Foundation. We are located at the Delwood Community rink. 7515 Delwood Road.
