Welcome Walk 2024 supporting The Global Village Project

Because this mission sits in the center of my heart.
On November 2nd, I will participate in a 5 mile Welcome Walk benefiting Global Village Project with over 300 people. Global Village Project (GVP) is the only school in the U.S. dedicated to serving refugee girls. As a nonprofit middle school, GVP provides a tuition-free academic program that serves students from all over the world. The typical student has been in the U.S. for less than three years and has missed an average of three to six years of school.
The walk begins in Clarkston, Georgia, where the majority of GVP’s students live, and ends in Decatur, Georgia where the school is located. The Walk represents the connecting of the two communities and the school’s commitment to create a safe and welcoming place for refugees to learn and thrive in. In the spirit of welcoming refugees and for educational equity among girls, I hope you will consider donating in support of me (or register to walk with me!) and the Global Village Project.
Walking in this event is not just about covering the miles; it's about making a tangible difference in the lives of young girls.
Thank you!

Watching the students at GVP navigate school takes me back to my own first experience of school in the U.S. I was a college freshman; only a week old in the U.S. It took an enormous amount of emotional energy to observe and learn and figure out how things are done and to fit in. It's like watching the jump ropes turn in double Dutch, trying to discern when to jump in. Then once you jump in, worrying that you may falter or fall from the dizzying whir of the ropes twirling around you.
