Inspire Atlanta 2024 Supporting Atlanta Women's Foundation

I’m starting my fundraising efforts to help young girls and other women who look like me have more opportunities in sports.
I was given a set path. “Get a good education,” they said. “Take these kinds of jobs,” they said. “You'll be valued,” they said. But one day, I woke up to the realization that none of that mattered if I wasn't happy and didn't feel supported. At 34, I made a bold decision to pivot into a new field. I was fortunate to have a career coach and a stable job to lean on, but it made me wonder, what if I didn't have that safety net? How far could my ambition have taken me? Would I have had the same opportunities without that support? Probably not. Would I have even thought to go after my dreams? Nope.
That's what women and girls living in poverty in the metro-Atlanta community are facing every day. They are choosing survival over dreams. They are choosing sacrifice over dreams. All the while, they are stifling what they could truly become. I want them to know that dreams don't only have to exist in their minds. Their dreams are meant to be lived out loud. Their circumstances shouldn't be an obstacle or a hindrance to their passions. The only roadblock I want them to experience is how big they can dream.
What would YOU do if you knew there were more possibilities available to you?
That's why I am so grateful to be part of the 2024 Inspire Atlanta cohort with The Atlanta Women's Foundation (AWF) so that I can make a difference in the lives of women and girls.
The Atlanta Women's Foundation (AWF) plays an essential role in helping more women and girls to live safe, economically self-sufficient lives. AWF raises funds for grantmaking through its collective impact model that amplifies the work of strategic nonprofits serving the metro Atlanta area.
My fundraising through Insipire Atlanta and AWF will directly support AWF’s current priority grantmaking project, the All Girls Forward: Girls Empowerment Program. Over the next five years, this program will provide a crucial combination of services to ensure that Atlanta's girls, especially those experiencing poverty, can compete on a level playing field with their peers. These services include mental health sessions, physical health activities, supplemental educational activities (including STEM), college readiness support, mentoring, and financial literacy programming.
It's my honor to continue AWF's work with women, and I hope you'll join me.*
