Every year, I will be participating in Full and Half Distance Ironman races and using that opportunity to raise funds and awareness for children with cancer. These children are champions… and bravely fight to survive cancer every single day. With purpose, I am striving to have impact for a charitable organization called POGO which is the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario. My goal is to raise $50,000 for this ongoing campaign - I am almost halfway there.
Why children and families of children with cancer? I am extremely grateful and fortunate to be the parent of a healthy son. Personally, I was also fortunate to have had a healthy and normal childhood. Others are not so fortunate and need our support to cope and help their children cope with the realities of a childhood with cancer.
Ironman is known as the most challenging one day endurance event in the world. It covers a staggering 226.31km and participants have only 17 hours to complete it…. there are no rest stops! Similarly, children battling cancer do not have a choice when to rest and when to persevere.
The grueling Ironman begins with a 3.86km open water swim, followed by a 180.25km bike race and is finished off with a full 42.2km marathon run.
In order to compete with purpose and be successful in this endeavor I will be committing to the following:
Please join me in any way you can to support these children and their families!
If you have any questions about this event or the charity I have chosen to support please email me at steve.vooro@hotmail.com.
Lets see what we can do this year!!
With thanks,
- Steve
