2024 Alaska Law Enforcement Torch Run and Pledge Drive supporting Special Olympics Alaska
Special Olympics Alaska

WHY WE DO IT

As LETR Founder and retired Chief Richard LaMunyon once said, "What started in 1981... as a flicker of hope for Special Olympics has now become a roaring flame of stability for Special Olympics athletes worldwide." Through the partnership of LETR and Special Olympics, we provide opportunities for athletes to empower and transform themselves, their communities and the world.

ABOUT THE CAUSE

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness campaign raising $1 billion dollars for Special Olympics Programs around the world. More than 100,000 law enforcement officers carried the Flame of Hope across 35 nations, raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Special Olympics Alaska is an accredited program of Special Olympics Inc., a global non-profit organization that provides sports training and competition to people with intellectual disabilities.

Join Special Olympics Alaska Athletes and Alaska Law Enforcement in raising funds for local community programs and sport programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities! The Alaska Law Enforcement Torch Run and Pledge Drive is a 5k running event that will bring together Special Olympics Athletes, Alaska Law Enforcement, and Alaska Community members to raise money for our athletes and sport programs. Every dollar raised in a community stays in that community! It does not cost anything to register, but in order to receive a limited edition LETR T-shirt we have a $35 fundraising minimum.
