Lace up for an unforgettable morning of unity and strength as we come together for the 37th annual Maine Children's Cancer Program Walk, powered by Shaw's Supermarket at Portland's Payson Park. This event isn't just a walk; it's a family reunion, where we gather as a community to support and uplift each other in the fight against childhood cancer and blood disorders.
Embrace your inner superhero and join us in honoring the real-life heroes – the courageous children battling cancer and the families standing by their side. Whether you're donning the cape of your favorite superhero or creating your very own "superhero persona" to celebrate the resilience of a loved one or even yourself, let's unite under the theme of bravery!
By participating in the Walk, you're not just walking; you're bringing hope and showing solidarity for children in Maine battling cancer and blood disorders. Every step you take and every dollar you raise directly supports critical treatments, research, and support services for the children and families we care for.
So, assemble your team, don your capes, and join us for a day filled with light, love, and a whole lot of superhero spirit. Register now to start fundraising and become a superhero for a cause that truly matters!
PS: Can't make it to Payson Park? Fear not! Our Virtual Walker option lets you join the superhero squad from anywhere in the world. Whether you’re strolling through your neighborhood, hiking a scenic trail, or even walking on the treadmill, your participation counts towards making a difference in the lives of these incredible young fighters.
Adamar entered the world with a diagnosis of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) type 4, a condition that makes his bones fragile and his journey uniquely challenging. But from day one, Adamar has shown us what it means to be resilient. Despite facing fractures and setbacks, Adamar's spirit remains unbreakable. At just 3 months old, he experienced his first fracture, yet that didn't stop him from enjoying a playful and adventurous toddlerhood. With extra caution and care, Adamar swam, played on playgrounds, and prepared for preschool just like any other child.
As he grew, so did the challenges. A severe spiral fracture just before starting preschool and subsequent fractures tested Adamar’s strength, but he never let it dampen his love for life. With the support of his amazing care team at MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and the Sam L. Cohen Pediatric Infusion Center at Maine Children's Cancer Program, Adamar now receives IV medications to strengthen his bones, a process he tackles with bravery and a smile.
Adamar’s journey reminds us all that while life may bring challenges, it’s how we rise above them that defines us. He’s not just surviving with OI—he’s thriving, showing us all what it means to be truly strong.
