2022 Downtown Hartford YMCA Mission in Motion Supporting Livestrong at the YMCA

Mission in Motion is a fundraising event in to ensure the success and sustainability of LiveSTRONG®, aquatics, and other innovative, life-changing programs and services that are accessible to children, families and adults regardless of their ability to pay.
This year’s event will offer multiple ways to get your body in motion with in-person, virtual, and
on your own opportunities.
Fundraising is easy. You can fundraise or make a donation of $100 to cycle, participate in Yoga, or in Zumba, whether in-person or on your own will ensure the Y remains strong for future generations. You can also fundraise for the Y and do a physical activity on your own time.
• In case of inclement weather, in person events will be held inside the newly renovated food court at State House Square.
• The Downtown YMCA will abide by the guidelines and restrictions set forth by the State of Connecticut and the CDC.
• For in-person yoga, please bring your own mat.
LiveSTRONG® at the Y helps adult cancer survivors
reclaim their health and well-being following a
cancer diagnosis. We offer a welcoming community
where survivors can improve strength and physical
fitness, diminish the severity of side effects, develop
supporting relationships and improve their quality
of life.
I pray whomever reads this letter realizes the
importance of the LiveSTRONG® program to
cancer survivors, it gives us a new hope and
a light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Being
cancer free is of course the first goal but the
LiveSTRONG® program helps with healing the
entire person not just the physical being.
Sincerely,
Dawn A. Walker
Dawn started her journey with the YMCA as a
LiveSTRONG® participant. This program had such
a huge impact on her life and her recovery that she
now volunteers with the group to help other cancer
survivors. She provides valuable perspective knowing
what the other participants are going through.
LiveSTRONG® at the Downtown YMCA has provided a free, 12-week program to 20 cancer survivors this past year to help overcome the effects of fatigue and deconditioning from treatment and the disease.
A family membership is also provided while individuals are in the program. LiveSTRONG® at the Y focuses on the whole person and not the disease, and is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.
