About 10th Anniversary Mito 5k Angels & Warriors Run, Walk, and Roll
Welcome to the annual Mito 5K! We are celebrating our 10th year!
We have missed everyone and are so excited to bring back the Mito 5K better than ever! This year we are featuring all our Warriors and Angels who are currently fighting and have fought Mitochondrial Disease and dysfunction.
Be prepared to have FUN! This year we will have interactive inflatables, raffles, carnival games, live entertainment, and silent auctions! We will be in our usual spot at Liberty Station on the corner of Cushing Rd and Womble Rd.
What is even more exciting is that not only can you join a team like in years past, but you can also have your own individual fundraising page that gets counted toward your team. You can personalize your page, tell your story, customize your goal and win badges that will present on your page after completion.
Some of our badges are worth points and anyone who earns 1,000 points will be put into a raffle to win a $250 Visa Gift Card!!!! To find the challenges and activities worth points go to the "Get Involved" tab on the top of this web page and check out "Browse Challenges" and "Browse Individual Activities." You can even create your own activity for others to try!

What is Mito?
Mito (How do you say it? “My-toe”)
Mitochondrial Disease results from failures of the mitochondria, the organelle responsible for more than 90% of all energy needed to sustain life and support growth. When these systems fail, the cell produces less energy resulting in cell injury and death. When this process occurs throughout the body, whole systems fail, compromising the body’s ability to sustain life. An individual's body who is affected by a Mitochondrial Disease is comparable to powering an entire house on a single battery. This disease is devastating and every 30 minutes a child is born who will develop a Mitochondrial Disease by the age of ten.

100% of the money raised from this event goes toward research enabling scientists to search for treatment, and ultimately a cure, for those suffering from Mitochondrial Disease. A disease which affects millions of people worldwide. Many diseases stem from mitochondrial dysfunction including diabetes, Parkinson's, ALS, and so many more. A cure for mitochondrial dysfunction is a cure for all!
How Your Support Makes a Difference
According to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF), every 30 minutes a child is born who will develop a Mitochondrial Disease — only half will live past their 10th birthday and only 20% will make it to age 20.
Your support does not just fund research to discover treatments and a cure Mitochondrial Disease, but also every disease that has been linked to mitochondrial dysfunction including, but not limited to:
Cancer, Autism, Diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, infertility, and obesity.
