Moving to End Violence is an inclusive virtual movement event with 1 mile, 5K and 10K distances. Move however you like – walk, run, swim, or roll to support Arizona survivors!
Participants will move on your own, wherever it is safe on November 20, 21, or 22, 2020.
This is a time to celebrate the resilience of survivors and the power of community. At a time when so many survivors and our communities are experiencing isolation, we hope this virtual event will provide some much needed connection and communicate to everyone experiencing abuse that you are not alone. We’ll be interacting across social media channels throughout race day to make the experience fun and interactive!
This event is in partnership with local Arizona domestic and sexual violence service providers who are the beneficiaries. The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted our local programs' ability to engage in traditional fundraising, while increasing the needs for services for survivors.
Why are we moving?
We need to change the status quo for the 1 in 2 women, 1 in 4 men, & 1 in 2 transgender individuals who have experienced contact sexual violence in their lifetime and the 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men that were victims of contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner with a negative impact such as injury, fear, concern for safety, needing services.
We need to prevent domestic violence related homicides - in 2019 over 96 people in Arizona were killed due to domestic violence. We need to change the systems that create this harm, while still supporting those that are being individually affected.
