About Neighbours Helping Neighbours

Where the community becomes one.

Albertans Helping Albertans… What better goal could we pursue? The Alberta Cancer Foundation is excited to partner with the AGAT Foundation to bring the community together with a new initiative: Neighbours Helping Neighbours

The yearly AGAT Foundation and Alberta Cancer Foundation Charity Classic has evolved into a major fundraising event dedicated to bringing “Patient Financial Assistance and Support” to cancer patients in our local communities across Alberta. With the help of loyal supporters and generous donors, over $1.37 Million in net proceeds have been raised for the Alberta Cancer Foundation's “Patient Financial Assistance Program and Patient Navigator Program”.

Our goal this year continues to be one of building on past fundraising efforts and bringing higher levels of community financial support to the most needed amongst us.

The AGAT Foundation Charity Classic and associated community events continues a long philanthropic tradition dedicated to funding programs throughout Alberta and Canada.

Alberta Cancer Foundation's Patient Financial Assistance Program

Making life better for Albertans facing cancer. Every day, nearly 60 Albertans hear the words “you have cancer”. The Alberta Cancer Foundation stands alongside every Albertan who hears these words by offering three in return, “we will help”.

A diagnosis of cancer comes with many challenges, including financial hardship for the patients and their families. To help alleviate this burden, all the funds raised during the AGAT Foundation Charity Classic will be donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation Patient Financial Assistance Program. Cancer can be a huge strain on finances. People are often forced to cash in their retirement funds and use up their savings to make ends meet during their treatment. That’s why the Alberta Cancer Foundation also provides patients access to financial assistance to cover the out of pocket expenses for items such as medication, medical supplies, transportation, accommodations, and child care. In 2021, the Patient Financial Assistance Program was accessed 4,456 times by families across Alberta.

Thanks to our donors and this Charity Classic hosted by the AGAT Foundation, patients and families are able to receive the financial assistance they need, so they can focus on what matters most – healing.

Neighbours Helping Neighbours, especially during local Neighbourhood Days starting on June 18, and with the upcoming AGAT Foundation Charity Classic on August 23, we are hopeful to successfully elevate community support, so we can extend a helping financial hand to our neighbours faced with a most difficult diagnosis and challenged with the associated burdens.

Together, we can make a difference for Albertans facing cancer, one community at a time.
