Imagine being able to earn a Ph.D., but not being able to pick up a set of keys; serving your country in combat, but being unable to feel safe in a crowd; imagine raising a family but not being able to hear a fire alarm. An assistance dog from Canine Companions can do all of this and so much more for a person with a disability.
Canine Companions for Independence transforms the lives of people with disabilities by providing our clients with expertly trained assistance dogs, free of charge. Our dogs are trained to perform practical tasks that enhance independence and reduce reliance on others. This powerful relationship leads to increased independence, confidence and inclusion for a person with a disability.
With six training centers across the country and presence in every state, Canine Companions is the largest and most highly acclaimed assistance dog organization in the United States. In fact, we are recognized worldwide for the excellence of our dogs, as well as the quality and longevity of our placements.
$50,000—that’s what it takes to raise, train and place a Canine Companions® assistance dog as well as provide the graduate team a lifetime of care and support. Yet Canine Companions provides assistance dogs to the recipients absolutely free of charge.
In 2020, NextHome raised over $35,000 toward this outstanding organization. We’re looking to go one step further in 2021! Let’s raise another $50,000 to fund the development of even more assistance dogs that will increase independence for children, adults and veterans with disabilities.
With your help, we can give independence and give a dog a job.
