Make A Difference with Your Miles!
I am beyond grateful to share that I will be running the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon in memory of my grandmother, Janet Ann (Gifford) Mietlicki, and to raise funds for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. This is a cause that means so much to me, and I feel privileged to combine my love for my grandmother with my passion for running to help make a difference.
My grandmother was the epitome of beauty, grace, and intelligence. She was the kind of person whose unwavering support in everything I did shaped the person I am today. I will forever hold the memories of our time together close to my heart, and one of my most cherished memories is from a summer afternoon when my cousins and I were kids.
On that day, my sister and oldest cousin went “missing” while my grandma was watching us. She searched the house high and low but couldn’t find them. Eventually, she decided to pack me and my youngest cousin into the car and said she was heading to the police station to file a missing persons report. But just as she made this comment, we heard laughter coming from upstairs. The two were hiding in my aunt’s bedroom closet the whole time! My grandma had overlooked the closet because my aunt was in there, and the two managed to sneak in without her noticing. We all laughed for hours after that, and it remains one of my favorite memories.
It’s moments like these that remind me of the joy, humor, and love my grandmother brought into my life. As I run the marathon on November 2, 2025, I know she will be up above, cheering me on alongside my dad through the streets of NYC. Her spirit will carry me through every mile, and I will run with her memory in my heart.
