ONE NIGHT HOMELESS: Bethany House executive director Tiffany Santana will spend One Night Homeless for her 4th year in a row. This year, she’s inviting you to join her!
On Saturday, March 9, 2024, brave participants will spend One Night Homeless in solidary with the thousands of women across the U.S. who choose homelessness over domestic violence.
Where and how you sleep is up to you! Tiffany usually sleeps a car because many of the women who have come to Bethany House over the years have come to us after spending some time living in their cars, but you can choose to spend your One Night Homeless however you’d like.
You can participate alone or in groups. It’s open to everyone of all ages - families, individuals, faith and school groups, sports teams, the scouts, and businesses! You can even join Tiffany at her site!
Don’t want to spend the night out but still want to support the cause? That’s perfectly fine! We know that asking you to spend the night homeless is difficult, challenging, and even scary for some, and that’s okay. You can still be a fundraiser and rally friends and family to be a part of your fundraising team and simply raise much needed funds for Bethany House!
THE CAUSE: 100% of the proceeds will go to our domestic violence intervention programs that include our safe house shelter, counseling, life advancement program, medical care, food, clothing, child care, and so much more! Bethany House provides a safe, supportive place where women and their children can rebuild their lives after abuse.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF BETHANY HOUSE OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA!
You can be a part of the solution to help us to end homelessness due to domestic violence!
During the 2023 Point-in-Time Count in Fairfax County, 41% of the unhoused people who were counted were either actively fleeing domestic violence or had experienced domestic violence.
By participating in One Night Homeless, you show solidarity with those who are now experiencing homelessness because of abuse, and you get a small glimpse into their reality.
You also help Bethany House to raise critical funds to provide confidential, secure shelter in our safe house to women and children who are fleeing danger. Each dollar you raise has a name and supports the tremendous work of helping women and their children to rebuild their lives after abuse.
Bethany House is unique in that we are not just a domestic violence shelter.
We are a domestic violence intervention program.
We deliver services through six key areas:
HELPLINE - The Helpline is our first line of support to those seeking safety from domestic violence and to others in our community who are looking for resources. Through our Helpline, which includes phone, email, text, and social media direct messaging, we provide initial screening and assessment, safety planning, and referrals to other services. We sometimes even offer prayer to those who request it.
LONGER-TERM SAFE HOUSE STAYS - Most domestic violence emergency shelters only offer 30 to 45-day stays, which is vitally important for getting victims out of harms way quickly, but it doesn't allow much time for women to get back onto their feet. At Bethany House of Northern Virginia, we provide 4 to 6 months of safe, short-term housing in our confidential safe house. During this time, each resident is assigned a case manager to help them secure permanent housing and to help them navigate the process of getting to an independent life free from abuse.
TRUMA COUNSELING - Each Bethany House client is provided weekly individual and group counseling to help her heal from the trauma of abuse, to learn to create healthy boundaries, to learn to advocate for herself, and to learn self sufficiency and the development of healthy relationships and family systems.
LIFE ADVANCEMENT PROGRAMMING - At Bethany House, we understand that it takes great courage to leave an abusive relationship and to start all over with a new life. To honor that courage, we provide programming that supports women in any way that we can so that they can build new lives after abuse. Life advancement programming includes education, job training, professional development, safety planning, spiritual support and Bible study, child care, health care, legal assistance, self care, and housing coordination. Each client works with her case manager to create an Individualized Service Plan, so that she can set goals that help her to create the life she wants on her terms.
AFTERCARE - One of the most unique and beneficial services Bethany House provides is the two-year, opt-in Aftercare program. For up to two years after a client transitions out of the safe house, she can continue to work with a case manager, receive individual and group counseling, shop in our pantry for personal care and household items, receive emergency financial assistance, participate in all events and programs, and so much more. Because of our Aftercare program, more than 95% of the women who come through the program report that they do not return to abusive relationships.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND SUPPORT- Bethany House loves the community it serves. We partner with businesses, churches and houses of worship, clubs and organizations, schools, government agencies, and our military to help those who have experienced domestic violence and to educate our community on ways to recognize abuse and support others who have experienced it. We also provide community support groups and community counseling for those who have experienced domestic violence but who have not been a part of our residential program.
WHEN YOU SUPPORT BETHANY HOUSE, YOU MAKE A LIFE-SAVING DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY!
