About 2025 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Alaska

About the Polar Plunge – The Coolest Event of the Year!

Mark your calendars and get ready to embrace the chill—Special Olympics Alaska’s Polar Plunge is back December 13 at Goose Lake in Anchorage Presented by GCI! It’s shaping up to be the most exhilarating event of the season. Whether you’re a returning plunger or a first-time daredevil, this signature winter fundraiser promises unforgettable memories, contagious energy, and a powerful purpose.

Each year, hundreds of bold and big-hearted individuals come together for this one-of-a-kind event. Dressed in everything from superhero costumes to tutus and team uniforms, participants take a quick (and very cold) plunge into Goose Lake, all in support of Special Olympics Alaska athletes. It’s more than just a fun stunt; it’s a community-wide show of support for inclusion, empowerment, and year-round athletic opportunity.

To participate, all you need to do is raise a minimum of $125, which goes directly toward providing training, competition, and health programs for Alaskans with intellectual disabilities. Your courage helps athletes across the state build confidence, friendships, and lifelong skills—on and off the playing field.

But don’t worry, it’s not just about the plunge. The event is a full-day celebration, featuring music, entertainment, food, and a festival-like atmosphere that draws in friends, family, and spectators of all ages. Whether you're jumping in or just cheering from the shore, you’ll feel the warmth of a community coming together for an incredible cause.

So start recruiting your team, pick out your best (or silliest) outfit, and get ready to make a splash. Cold water, warm hearts—that’s what the Polar Plunge is all about.

We’ll see you at Goose Lake on December 13! Don’t miss it!

WHY PLUNGE?

Sure, plunging into an icy lake in the middle of an Alaskan winter might sound a little wild—and it is.. But it’s also one of the most meaningful (and memorable) ways you can show up for your community!

When you take part in the Special Olympics Alaska Polar Plunge, you’re doing more than braving the cold. You’re raising essential funds and awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state. Each dollar you raise helps provide access to year-round sports training, competitions, health programs, and inclusive opportunities that change lives.

But the impact goes even deeper! The plunge is a powerful statement: that every athlete deserves the chance to grow, to compete, and to belong. By showing up in costumes, goosebumps, and all—you’re standing beside them and saying, “We’re in this together.”

And yes, it’s also a blast! From the electric energy at the plunge line to the cheers from the crowd as you emerge from the water, the Polar Plunge is part heart, part challenge, and 100% unforgettable.

So why do it? Because the cold is temporary, but the impact you’ll make lasts a lifetime.

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!
