With the COVID-19 pandemic, it was impossible for the Peterborough Chapter to have the annual Run/Walk in May which is one of our main fundraisers. So I thought I would do my own Run, in the form of challenging myself to run 120km in the month of September while also collecting online donations to support the Peterborough Chapter's fundraising efforts.
Your donation would be put to good use. The Huntington Society of Canada provides essential support to families with HD all across the country and contributes significantly to research in the hunt for effective treatments for HD.
One in every 7,000 Canadians has HD, a devastating, degenerative brain disorder. The symptoms are like having Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS in one disease. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease.
There is currently no cure but there is active research and drug development happening and several clinical trials are now underway.
