How do I register to Run/Walk?

  • Visit our Registration Page.
  • You will be prompted to sign up using Facebook, Google or Twitter or you can sign up using your email address.  Any option will provide you to the next steps.
  • Select as a Run, Walk or Virtual participant or you can register as a fundraiser only.
  • Join as an individual, join a team or create a team.
  • Invite others to Run/Walk with you or donate to your fundraising page!

Can I register on the day of the event?
Yes, but we strongly recommend you pre-register to make sure you have all the information you need. This also gives you time to fundraise for the Run/Walk. If you register the day of the event, the cost will go up $10 and we can’t guarantee a Race t-shirt.

My whole family is participating. Does everyone need to register?
Yes. For planning purposes, we require that all runners/walkers register. Register your whole family at once by choosing ‘Register Another Walker’ before you complete your registration. All registered will be able to pick up a Race to Beat Women’s Cancers t-shirt.

Can I register multiple people in one transaction?
Yes. The option to register additional individuals will appear prior to finishing your registration. Please note, that additional registrants will be linked to your fundraising page and will not receive their own additional pages. Should each individual want his or her separate page, they will need to register separately and provide unique email addresses.

Do I have to be on a team in order to participate?

No. You can register to Run/Walk as an individual. Visit mageewomens.org/5K and click on register and follow the prompts.

Do I have to Run/Walk in person?
No. This year we are offering a virtual option.  If you do not want to Run/Walk in person with us, you can choose however you want to participate. Just click on the Virtual option in the Getting Involved tab and register. You will be required to pick up your Race t-shirt prior to the Run/Walk.  Runners who sign up virtually will not be eligible for awards.

If I participate in the virtual Run/Walk option, what day do I participate?
We ask that you Run/Walk on September 5.  If that is not possible, any day prior to September 5 is requested.

Can I Run/Walk before the event?
Yes. Get your family and coworkers together. Take photos/videos and post on social media leading up to the Race using #rbwc21

Do I need to fundraise a certain amount to receive a t-shirt?
No. All who register will receive a t-shirt.  Guaranteed sizes closer to the date or on event day may not be available, so register early.

How do I get my t-shirt?
We will have a pre-packet pickup and onsite registration for the Run/Walk on August 28 from 11am-3pm at South Hills Village (upper level near Forever 21) and August 29 from 11am-3pm at Ross Park Mall (lower level center court).  After these dates, other options are being considered so check here for more options or you can pick up on Race day.

Can I pick up shirts for others on my team?
Yes.  You can pick up shirts for others. 

Do I have to wear the Race to Beat Women’s Cancers t-shirt at the Run/Walk?
No, it’s not required. Some runners/walkers choose to create their own unique team shirts.

Are kids’ sizes available?
No kid’s sizes.  T-shirts are Unisex/Adult sizes (S-3XL).


Is there a minimum fundraising amount?
No, we do not have a minimum fundraising amount for teams or individuals. The cost of registration guarantees your ability to participate. However, we strongly encourage all participants to work towards a personal fundraising goal of $100 or more. Click on the 'Get Involved' tab and then click on the 'Fundraise' tab for more fundraising tools.

Will I be charged if I don’t hit my fundraising goal?
No, but we encourage creativity to fulfill and even exceed your fundraising goal!

If I don’t want to participate in the Run/Walk, can I still donate?
Yes. Thank you so much for your generosity! You can direct your donations to an individual or team.

Are donations and registration fees tax-deductible?
Registration fees are not tax-deductible, however, all donations are tax-deductible. Gifts to Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Our tax identification number is 25-1462312. 

What are matching gifts?

Increase your gift with your company’s matching gift program. Spouse and retiree gifts also may be matched. Make your gift online and then ask your employer about your company’s gift match program. The information can be sent to:

How do I use my personal fundraising page?
A personal fundraising page is automatically created for you when you register for the Run/Walk. Through your page, you can customize your personal fundraising page. You can share your page with friends and family through social media and email. You can also upload photos on your gallery page.  We encourage you to personalize your page for greater impact.

How do I make a donation?
Supporters may donate to you by making a gift online to your personal fundraising page. Gifts are automatically tracked through the page. You’ll receive notifications when gifts are made so you can personally thank your supporters. The Foundation will also acknowledge your supporters' gifts via a tax receipt. Gifts can also be made through cash and check. These gifts will need to be brought on event day and provided during registration.  They can also be mailed to the address below.  Please do not send cash in the mail.  A donation form must be attached to each gift.

Who should checks be made payable to?
All checks should be made payable to Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation and turned in with a donation form.

Do I need a gift donation form for each gift?
Yes. For each donation you receive offline (such as cash or checks), you will need to attach a donation form
 to each donation when you turn it in. Attaching the form with each donation will let us properly credit your fundraising goal and also make sure that your supporters are acknowledged individually and properly. Online gifts through your personal fundraising page do not need a donation form, as they are tracked and acknowledged automatically.

Can I mail in several gifts and donation forms in one envelope?
Yes. You can mail checks on in the mail. Just be sure to attach a completed donation form
 for each cash or check gift. However, please do not mail cash donations in the mail. You will need to make arrangements to drop off to the Foundation office. 

Can I drop off gifts?

My supporter needs a tax receipt letter. How do I get one?
Donors must provide their first and last name with a full address to receive a tax receipt. For cash and checks, be sure each donation form 
includes the donor's full name and address, and we will mail them a letter when their gift has been processed. A tax receipt is automatically generated for supporters when they give online through your personal fundraising page.


How do I create an individual or corporate team?
Thanks for being a Team Captain! Now, just follow these few simple steps:

  • Create your team by clicking Get Involved then Register and Start a Team.
  • Invite individuals to register and join your team.
  • Start fundraising! Check out the Fundraise page for tips.

How do I join or start a team?
When you register, select the option to Join or Start a team 
or search for your team's name.

Do I have to be on a team in order to participate in the Run/Walk?
No. You can register to Run/Walk as an individual.

Do all teammates have to fundraise?
Each team member is encouraged to set and reach a personal fundraising goal. Check out some helpful fundraising tips

I'm already registered to Run/Walk as an individual, but I want to start my own team or join a team. Is it too late?
Not at all! Click the Individual Participant tab in Manage My Page and select Participate as part of a team.

Event Information

Where will the Run/Walk be located?
North Park (at Boathouse)

How long is the Run/Walk?
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and should concluded no later than noon.  Runners will start first followed by the walkers. 

Will this be a timed Run?
Yes. This event will be a chip-timed run.  Bibs will be given at your packet pick up.  There will be medals given to winners in defined categories.

Will spectators be permitted to attend?
Yes.  We encourage family and friends to join in.  

Will we be required to wear a mask?
Yes. Masks must be worn before and after the Run/Walk in the main area.  Masks are not required on the course as long as you stay distanced.

Will there be strollers or wheelchairs available?
No. If you require a stroller or wheelchair, please bring it with you to the event.

Can I ride my bike or rollerblade on the route?
No. For safety reasons, bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, hoverboards, and anything alike are not permitted at the Run/Walk.

Is the Run/Walk handicap accessible?
Yes. The Run/Walk route is handicap accessible. If you or someone on your team requires any special accommodations, please contact us at

Can I bring my pet?
No. For the safety of our runners and walkers, pets are not permitted at the Run/Walk. The only exception to this rule is for registered service dogs.  If you bring your pet, you will be asked to vacate the premises.

Will food be available?
Yes.  We will have packaged light refreshments following the Run/Walk.

Will there be beverage stations at the Run/Walk?
Yes. We will do our best to have as much bottled water at the Run/Walk to keep you hydrated.

Will there be bathrooms available?
Yes. Portable restrooms and hand sanitizer will be available.

Can I smoke at the Run/Walk?
No. Smoking is prohibited at the event.

Can I wear a costume to the Run/Walk?
Yes. Please remember that Race to Beat Women’s Cancers is a family friendly event.

Are there activities before and after the Run/Walk?
Yes, we will have a safe and socially distanced vendor area.

Will there be security personnel and aid stations at the Run/Walk?
Yes. Runner/Walker safety is of the utmost importance to us. EMS/police will be on site.

What happens if it rains?
Bring your rain gear because this is a rain or shine event. In case of severe weather conditions, follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on all pre-event information. We will also send email updates and text messages in case of delay or cancellation. If you are not receiving our emails, please call 412-641-8950 and we will have a recording on event day.
