About Ryder 5K+ 2024

Let’s run together to support children and families in our community!

Starting October 21st through November 1st, Ryder 5K+ participants will log at least 3.1 miles through our virtual walk/run!  Any participants who want to log more than 3.1 miles are encouraged! (Hence the 5K+)

The event is open to all ages and abilities. You are welcome to complete your miles in whatever way works best for you—walking, biking, running or rolling.

THE CAUSE

Funds raised through the Run United Ryder 5K+ will be included on our campaign totals and go to provide supports for the Southeastern Michigan community, helping to meet the basic needs of families and students.

JOIN US AND CHANGE LIVES

For five years, United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s Run United team of 300+ runners and 100+ volunteers has participated in the Detroit Free Press Marathon and other local running events. Led by corporate partners like FCA, Bosch, Ford and others, Run United offers a chance to get physically active with friends and coworkers while doing good in the community.

Together, we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support United Way’s work to build communities of stable households and thriving children.

Though a lot of things have changed, our commitment to the community has not. Join Run United: Ryder 5K+ for our third Virtual Run and help us impact the lives of students and families in our community as we continue to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

STABLE HOUSEHOLDS AND THRIVING CHILDREN

THE PROBLEM

In Southeast Michigan, 44 percent of households in our region already struggled to meet their basic needs like food, housing and health care.

Now, the problem has grown.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has both increased the number of families who can't make ends meet and increased the burden on these families.  In April, unemployment claims in Michigan reached an all-time high of 1.3 million and 457,000 Michiganders are now at risk of losing their homes.  The number of children facing hunger is expected to rise to as high as 18 million.

If people can’t meet their basic needs, they’ll never be able to create stable households. And without stable households, we’ll never be able to support our children and ensure the future success of our region.

OUR SOLUTION

United Way for Southeastern Michigan is the leader in the mobilization of people and resources to address our community’s immediate needs while creating and advocating for long-term change.  We bring families out of crisis by bringing people together to tackle the root causes of community's problems

THE GOAL

Raise the necessary funds to help lift households into financial stability and empower children with educational tools they'll need in order to thrive in a learning environment.
