Why Participate?

SCTPN celebrates 23-years of walking to raise awareness and funds for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).

This is the second year that the walk will be held virtually on Zoom, and the theme for this celebration is #SCTPNWalk2021 #EveryStepYouTake #ShinestheLightonSickleCellDisease.  When you register your team or register as an individual walker, you will receive a link to register on Zoom for the kickoff on August 21, and the walk on September 18 simulcast on Zoom and FB Live.

Your team will have 3-weeks to complete 30,000 steps (24kilometer or 15 miles).

The walk takes place on September 18, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  The walk will be hosted on Zoom and Streamed on Facebook Live @SCTPNWalk.

SCTPN seeks to raise $80,000 with your support.  Every Step You Take will enable SCTPN to:

  •  Provide Undergraduate Scholarships to young adults matriculated in an accredited   college.
  •  Continue its mission to deliver Public Outreach & Educational Services (POES) Forums to   raise public awareness and knowledge of sickle cell disease.
  •  Expand its Transitions Program for adolescents moving from pediatrics onto adult care,   and provide Care Coordination for adults who do not have a primary care physician or   medical home.
  •  Stay connected to the sickle cell disease community throughout New York State,   Nationally, and Internationally.
  •  Turn on you Fitness app, Pedometer app or download a pedometer from your favorite   app store to help you log and keep track of your steps.

You can support the achievement of this year’s $80,000 fundraising goal by registering a walk team and asking friends, family, co-workers, and congregation, civic or social organization to join your team to help you raise funds.

Don’t forget to set a goal for your team!
