Shine the Light on Suicide Prevention

Virtual 5k

About Virtual 5k

How it works:

As a virtual run we ask that you complete this run on your own time by the end of December.  You can run it anywhere you like!  We suggest a path like the lakefront trail or even a treadmill at the gym.  When you finish, you can enter your time into a Google form that we will send out.

How do I sign up?

Register here to let us know you will be joining us!  Not much of a runner?  That's ok you can still support by donating.

What you're doing by joining:

By joining us in a virtual run and/or donating to Gabriel's Light, you're bringing awareness to the organization and the prevention of youth suicide.  Please consider donating to our fundraiser to raise $500.  Thank you for your support!

A little more about our work with Gabriel's Light:

At Gabriel’s Light, youth ambassadors work to educate themselves and others about mental health awareness.  The mission of Gabriel’s Light is to prevent youth suicide through education, cyber safety, and kindness campaigns and was founded after the Deely family lost their son Gabriel to suicide.  This year, we have been working with Gabriel’s Light as youth ambassadors.  As a result of the pandemic, many people have had increasing struggles with their mental health. In addition, the pandemic has brought mental health to light in the media. In order to raise advocacy for suicide prevention and mental health awareness, we will be running a 5k with friends to support Gabriel’s Light. Due to the pandemic, our runners will be marking their running-times and completion through emailing either of us.  Please consider donating to our fundraiser to raise $500.  Thank you for your support!

Both Olivia and Emerson are students at Saint Ignatius College Prep and also members of Erika's Lighthouse, a club that works to shed light on mental health problems and seek out solutions in school communities. Olivia has worked as a youth ambassador for Gabriel’s Light for over a year. Olivia attended Saint Clement grade school where she was a friend of Gabe Deely. She believes mental health is the most important thing high schoolers should be informed about and greatly enjoys working with Gabriel’s Light because it does such a great job at that.  Emerson has worked with Gabriel’s Light through the youth ambassador program for around a year. In grade school, she was a friend of Gabe Deely and hopes to spread awareness about suicide and mental health in her communities. Through running our 5k, we hope to raise money and recognition for Gabriel’s Light!
