About 2022 Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Torch Run was escorted through our counties by law enforcement personnel between Monday, June 13 and Friday, June 24.  Law Enforcement Torch Run runners paid a registration fee for the honor of escorting the Special Olympics Torch, the Flame of Hope on their route through their communities.

Every year Law Enforcement agencies all over Northern California raise thousands of dollars by hosting a variety of fundraising events  which support the Special Olympics programs provided to our athletes at no cost to them or their families.  The culminating event is the Torch Run where law enforcement personnel raise funds for the honor of running the Special Olympics Torch, "The Flame of Hope," through their communities as a sign of their dedication and commitment to Special Olympics athletes.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, almost 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe.

Why Participate?

The Law Enforcement Torch Run provides law enforcement agencies throughout Northern California the opportunity to promote a positive and civic-minded image to their communities.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run raises thousands of dollars for Special Olympics Northern California which supports the many programs and services Special Olympics provides to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Not only is there financial support created by fundraising efforts, but lasting friends are formed with our athletes through fundraising events and attending supporting events cheering our athletes on as they compete.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

Special Olympics provides sports training and competition opportunities as well as educational and health programming at no cost to the athletes or their families.

The skills athletes gain through their participation goes far beyond the playing field.  It builds their confidence and self-esteem giving them the life skills to productive members of their community.
