Do you remember the thrill of seeing your favorite animals at your childhood zoo? How about the excitement of spotting a wild bird as you made your way to school each morning? Now that we’ve grown up, we recognize that cherished fun was the catalyst for developing our lifelong love of nature. A zoo is far more than a place to look at animals. It’s a place to step into a world of natural wildlife. It’s a place that sparks imagination and joy. It’s a place where conservation research happens. It’s a place of exceptional animal care. It’s a place where we can all come together to learn about the planet we share with so many amazing species. It’s a place where we make lifelong memories. Our zoo is a place full of memories worth making and wildlife worth saving.
Now, the time has come for us to impart such impactful memories onto the next generation, to be devoted stewards of nature. The Rosamond Gifford Zoo gives us all the ability to travel across the globe into wetlands, deserts, forests, the depths of the ocean, plains, and other rugged, natural areas, all without leaving our community. Where else in our community can you see species such as Amur tigers, Asian elephants, and Turkmenian markhor in their habitats? Where else can you step into a green-filled aviary full of diverse bird species as they fly overhead? Where else can you peep through aquatic worlds and desert landscapes to get up-close-and-personal looks at spotted garden eels, eastern hellbenders, and Gila monsters? Where else would you and your loved ones be able to make these enduring, special memories?
For decades, the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo has been a vital part of our community, and a leader in the fight for wildlife conservation. We need your help to continue our mission.
