Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease that means the body’s pancreas is unable to produce insulin, losing its ability to regulate blood sugar. One can be diagnosed at any age, it is not preventable, and there is currently no cure.
2 million Americans have type 1 diabetes, including about 304,000 children and adolescents. Living with Type 1 Diabetes involves managing not just daily blood sugar levels but also being vigilant about potential long-term complications. These complications can include cardiovascular disease, nerve damage (neuropathy), kidney damage (nephropathy), eye damage (retinopathy), and foot damage. Awareness and proactive management of Type 1 Diabetes are essential to minimizing these risks and ensuring a healthy, fulfilling life.
Get involved by attending an event, volunteering your time, or making a donation. Assist us in our mission to elevate awareness about the realities of living with Type 1 Diabetes – and to raise funds to assist in finding a cure.
